The College of Agriculture at the University of Basra organized a scientific seminar on "Modern Systems in Aquaculture."
The seminar, presented by Professor Dr. Jalal Mohammed Issa, aimed to highlight the importance of modern technologies in the current challenges facing the aquaculture sector, as they offer both scientific and practical solutions.
The seminar included several sessions presented by Professor Dr. Salah Mahdi Najm, Assistant Professor Dr. Ahmed Mohsen Moujar, and Professor Dr. Sadiq Jawad Mohammed. These sessions addressed topics such as the sustainability of aquaculture, fish farming techniques, continuous water flow systems (irrigation systems), and aquaponics systems for raising plants alongside fish.
The seminar recommended the necessity of using the latest technologies, including artificial intelligence, to establish farming systems that ensure the sustainability of fish production in the face of climate change, particularly the scarcity and increasing salinity of fresh water, as is the case in Basra Governorate.
