The College of Agriculture at the University of Basra organized a seminar on the effect of tip pruning and cobalt spraying on the growth and yield of some green cowpea varieties cultivated in the desert region of southern Iraq.
The seminar, presented by researcher Sabah Hassan Awda, aimed to study the effect of tip pruning and treatment with different concentrations of cobalt on the growth and yield of green cowpea varieties.
The study showed an increase in growth and yield indicators in certain cowpea varieties after tip pruning, and an increase in root nodule formation, which positively impacted growth and production, through spraying with cobalt at a concentration of 8 mg/L.
The study recommended selecting varieties suitable for the desert region, pruning to 4-5 true leaves, and choosing the optimal cobalt concentration.
