University of Basra organizes a seminar on beekeeping

The College of Agriculture at the University of Basra organized a seminar on the fundamentals of beekeeping.

The seminar aimed to equip participants with the knowledge and practical skills to manage apiaries scientifically and to raise their awareness of the economic and environmental importance of bees. The seminar, presented by Dr. Mahmoud Shaker Hashem and Dr. Amjad Abbas Fadel, covered the components of a beehive, the most important tools beekeepers use to inspect hives and extract honey, and the utilization of various bee products (honey, beeswax, royal jelly, and pollen). It also addressed improving the quality characteristics of honeybees through queen rearing.

The seminar recommended selecting colonies with standardized characteristics to produce high-quality queens, ensuring the sustainability of beekeeping and achieving economic and social goals.
