The University of Basra organizes a seminar on fungi that cause spotting on barley and the possibility of biologically controlling them.

The College of Agriculture at the University of Basra organized a seminar on "Diagnosis and Control of Fungal Leaf Spot Diseases in Barley Using Zinc Oxide, Nano Copper, and Extracts of Thyme and Neem as Sustainable Alternatives to Chemical Pesticides."

The seminar, presented by Master's student Alaa Abdul-Ilah, aimed to identify the fungi causing barley leaf spot disease and explore potential control methods.

The study indicated that a group of pathogenic fungi are involved in this disease, and that the use of zinc oxide, nano copper, and aqueous extracts of thyme and neem reduced the growth of these pathogenic fungi.

The study was conducted due to the prevalence of this disease in some areas of Basra and Maysan governorates.
