The College of Agriculture at the University of Basra organized a field trip for first-year students in the Department of Fisheries and Marine Resources to a fish hatchery as part of their ichthyology course. The students were accompanied by Dr. Atheer Hussein Ali and Dr. Thamer Katea Adai.
The visit aimed to enhance the students' practical skills and connect theoretical concepts with practical applications in fish farming and breeding.
The trip included observing the steps of artificial insemination for common carp, from isolating broodstock and preparing and using pituitary gland extract at specific concentrations, to the injection procedure. The students also learned about incubators for fertilized eggs and larvae, sedimentation and broodstock storage basins, and water transfer and treatment systems. This visit contributed to developing the students' field skills and practical experience in aquaculture.
