Basra University is discussing Pathogenesis-related proteins

A story to tell One of the scientific activity of plant protection department – college of agriculture; Professor Mohammed H Abass presented a lecture about (Pathogenesis-related proteins. A story to tell!); which explained the historical background of these proteins discovery in the prospective of biochemical and physiological aspects; as well as; determination the gene expression pathways and their controlled factors. Moreover; Abass shed the light on the increases of these protein accumulation as a response of pathogen attack and insect  interaction in way led to plant resistance/ tolerance to such attack. Nowadays; about 17 families members of PR proteins have been classified and their biological functions revealed.
Several line of transgenic plants have been cloned with different PR genes in rice and tobacco which rendered these plant a significant level of resistance toward different fungal pathogens and insect attack.
