The College of Agriculture at the University of Basra organized an awareness workshop on "Promoting Youth Awareness of the Dangers of Drugs and Addiction."

The workshop, presented by Lecturer Anhar Mahmoud Jaaz, aimed to raise awareness among young people about the dangers of drugs and addiction by highlighting the health, psychological, and social consequences of drug use. It also sought to explain the reasons for falling into addiction and methods of prevention, in addition to developing decision-making skills among young people to help them avoid risky behaviors.

The workshop included a discussion of the definition of drugs and addiction and their types, an explanation of the causes of addiction and the factors that influence it, an explanation of the effects of drugs on the brain, particularly the reward system and the changes that occur in brain chemistry, and a presentation of methods for drug prevention and ways to reduce its spread.
