The University of Basra, in cooperation with the World Food Program, inaugurates the aquaculture and shrimp farming project

The President of the University of Basra, Prof. Dr. Saad Shaheen Hammadi, in cooperation with the World Food Program and the Deanship of the College of Agriculture, opened today, Sunday 8/20/2023, as part of the projects presented by the Aquaculture Unit in the College of Agriculture, the two projects of aquaculture (aquaponics system) and shrimp breeding. He attended the opening Mr. Dean of the College of Agriculture, Prof. Dr. Raghadan Hashem Mohsen, representatives of the World Food Program-United Nations, and the heads of departments and units in the college.

These activities are among the pioneering projects within the sustainable agriculture programs, which are funded by the World Food Program. The aquaponics project was established by following three international systems for aquaculture within a plastic house. The project relies on clean energy, as solar panels are used to provide electrical energy for it. The second project involved the cultivation of local shrimp in one of the tanks of the aquaculture unit at the Agricultural Research Station in Al-Hartha.
