The College of Agriculture at the University of Basra organized a scientific awareness seminar entitled “Linguistic Discourse in Women’s Issues and Rights.”
The seminar, presented by Dr. Nada Nasser Shurhan from the Arabic Language Department at the College of Education for Women and Dr. Zainab Ahmed Abdul-Razzaq, a member of the Women’s Affairs Unit, aimed to address several key scientific topics. These included the concept of linguistic discourse, the relationship between language and symbolic power, common patterns of linguistic discourse concerning women, mechanisms of bias in discourse, and the reasons for and importance of discourse analysis.
The seminar also highlighted the impact of alternative linguistic discourse in promoting awareness of women’s rights and challenging stereotypes.
