University of Basra organizes a seminar on fungi that thrive in harsh conditions.

The College of Agriculture at the University of Basra organized a seminar on "Extreme Fungi: Adaptation and Applications."

The seminar, presented by Dr. Hazem Sabah Rahma, aimed to explore extreme fungi, also known as hypertrophic fungi, and their various mechanisms for adapting to and coping with harsh conditions such as high temperatures, freezing temperatures, drought, radiation, and others.

The seminar also addressed the role of these fungi in agriculture, such as improving plant growth and combating plant pathogens.

The seminar further discussed the role of these fungi in industry, including the production of bio-products, biofuels, and bioleaching, as sustainable alternatives to traditional chemicals and less harmful to the environment.
